Augusta is a city in eastern part of the state of Georgia. With a population of just over 539,000 it is Georgia's second most populated city and ranks 112th in the largest cities in the US. The weather is mild with winter lows of 33 and summer highs around 90. Precipitation averages about 3 to 4 inches of rainfall per month. The minor league baseball team, the Augusta Greenjackets, plays in Augusta with ties to the San Francisco Giants. The Augusta Riverhawks professional Ice Hockey team also plays here. The city is perhaps best known for the The Masters golf tournament, the 1st professional golf tournament each year. Educational institutions include Augusta State University, the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta Technical College, Georgia Military College, and Paine College. Interstate 20 (I-20) travels through Augusta, between Columbia, South Carolina, and Atlanta. The city was the home of James Brown. Area hospitals include University Hospital. Companies with a presence in Augusta include T-Mobile, International Paper, Automatic Data Processing (ADP), Procter and Gamble, and Solo Cup Company. Recreation areas include Augusta Canal and Riverwalk Augusta.
